CMI Electrical Strengthens Cable Supply for Major Renewables Projects

Our cable division is powering Australia’s energy transition, delivering tailored low and high voltage cabling for key renewables and infrastructure developments.

As Australia accelerates its shift to renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure, CMI Electrical’s cable division is playing a pivotal role—supplying high-quality low- and high-voltage cables to projects across construction, mining, renewables, and utilities

Founded in 1991 and acquired by IPD Group in late 2023, CMI has grown to operate six warehouses nationally, supporting orders from $250,000 to $10 million for cable systems tailored to large-scale endeavours. Our product range includes XLPE, AFLEX, Hartland, and Minto-branded flexible and power cables, engineered to withstand harsh site conditions—from underground to coastal environments.

Highlights of our cable capabilities:

  • Custom engineered XLPE & rubber-insulated cables designed for mines, tunnelling, and commuter rail projects.
  • Specialised flexible control cables (low halogen, high-temp) suitable for industrial automation and harsh environments.
  • Submersible and screened cables for pump stations, water treatment plants, and solar fields.
  • Heavy-duty power cables rated up to 1 kV, with relevant UV, corrosion, and mechanical protection.

Beyond product quality, CMI’s value lies in its end-to-end support—from early-stage specification to compliance advice and on-site technical assistance. As a national cable supplier, CMI helps project teams optimise cable selection, ensure regulatory compliance, and streamline supply chains under a single, trusted partner.

“Our cable division has always been integral to Australia’s industrial backbone,” says Adam Jones, Managing Director of CMI Electrical. “Now, aligned with IPD’s broader capabilities, we’re better equipped than ever to support infrastructure and renewables projects with premium products and expert service.”

Some of our recent key projects include the Brisbane Airport Expansion, Christmas Creek Power Station, and the Glenfield to Leppington rail link—each relying on CMI cables for reliable performance in complex installations.

With the ongoing push towards clean energy and electrified infrastructure, CMI continues to invest in cable inventory, custom fabrication, and supply readiness—ensuring that contractors have reliable access to quality cable systems when it matters most.
